Walnut reeded reading wall

A floor-to-ceiling panel of half-round black walnut reeds, 1.5m wide, that turns one end of a study into a reading corner: a floating walnut book shelf over the chair, a thick little shelf at armrest height that does the job of a side table, and a brass swing-arm light screwed through the reeds, all standing on a solid walnut plinth. Nothing stands on the floor but the chair, so the corner works in a room too small for a side table and a floor lamp.

• Clay-pink diamond lattice nursery wall A nursery wainscot of diamond lattice: 44mm poplar strips run on the diagonal and half-lapped where they cross, framed by a deep bottom rail, end stiles and a top rail, everything in soft clay pink to 1.3m. The lipped cap ledge on top sits above a toddler's reach, so the baby monitor, night light and favourite books live there instead of on a side table, and the painted MDF below wipes clean.
• Cornflower stair-landing gallery wall A stair-landing wall that becomes the family photo gallery: cornflower-blue shiplap to dado height under an oiled oak cap, and above it three oak standards carrying three lipped picture ledges and a top rail. Frames lean on the ledges, so the gallery can be rearranged every school year without a single new nail hole, and nothing stands more than 95mm into a tight landing.
• Denim board-and-batten book wall A grid board-and-batten wall in denim blue, 1.5m high, whose mid and top rails each carry a lipped book ledge: almost 7 metres of face-out shelf at a five-year-old's reach and a parent's, standing only 140mm off the wall so it takes no floor. The MDF skin and battens below take the scuffs a kids' room hands out, and wipe clean.
