End-grain checkerboard butcher block
A 450 x 360mm end-grain butcher block in an eighty-square checkerboard of hard maple and black walnut, 40mm thick, with stopped juice grooves down both long sides and finger recesses coved into each end. The end grain takes a knife edge between its fibres instead of across them, so blades stay sharp longer and cuts close up; silicone feet lift it 10mm so it never slides, rocks or sits in a puddle.
