Over-bonnet garage storage loft

The unused space above the car bonnet, put to work: a sealed pine loft on four doubled posts with a plywood deck at 2.1m for bulky things, and underneath it five lidded totes that hang by their rims between plywood runners and slide out like drawers. The car noses in underneath; nothing lives on the floor.

• Apartment fold-away workbench A white oak hutch for a flat with no workshop: closed, it is a bookcase over a chest of drawers; fold the worktop down onto its two maple lopers and it opens into an 840mm-deep bench with a face vise, a terracotta tool wall, chisels and a saw at hand, and four drawers of planes and boxes below.
• Dust collector closet A pale mint MDF closet that swallows the loudest, ugliest thing in the shop: the canister collector stands on its bin dolly inside a felt-lined bay, its exhaust leaving through a louvred top section of the door, and rolls out to be emptied. A slim cupboard beside it keeps hoses, blast gates and spare filters, all in one metre of wall.
• Finishing cart with pull-out drying racks A slate-green rolling finishing cart for small shops where wet parts end up all over the bench: eight maple racks slide out on runners, each with four drying pins, so a whole kitchen of doors dries in 0.43m² of floor and rolls away from the dust. A cupboard below holds the tins and brushes, a lipped top keeps the open can in place.
