Mushroom butler's pantry

A butler's pantry run painted a soft mushroom taupe: face-framed drawers and cupboards with satin nickel pulls under a honed white marble worktop and upstand, and lit glass-fronted wall cabinets that run up to a cove crown, washed underneath with warm light.

• Pinstriped walnut serving paddle A 560mm walnut serving paddle glued up from seven strips, two maple pinstripes running the length of its 380 x 250mm head and the centre strip carrying on into a long rounded handle. Thin and flat at 16mm, it slides under a pizza or a loaf like a peel, goes straight to the table as the serving board, and its handle hangs over the table edge so the board itself takes no more room than the food on it.
• Walnut sideboard A long, low black walnut sideboard: slab-door cupboards either side of an open bay for records, on a recessed plinth so it seems to float, against a deep teal wall.
• Long cherry charcuterie plank A metre-long cherry grazing plank, 300mm wide and 22mm thick, with a rounded tab handle shaped into each end and two battens let into sliding dovetails underneath. The battens keep a long, thin board flat for years - glued only at their centres, they let the cherry move across its width without cupping or cracking - and lift it 15mm so fingers get under the tabs to carry a full spread down the middle of the table.
