• Walnut and maple chess table A walnut side table with a maple and walnut chessboard for a top and a baize-lined drawer for each side's pieces, so a game can be left half-played and the set never goes missing. A slatted shelf below holds the clock and the captured pieces; the top floats on buttons so the border can move with the seasons.
• Maple arch bookends A pair of tall arched bookends in hard maple, each standing on a thin blackened steel plate that slides under the first few books, so the books' own weight holds the row upright instead of a heavy block taking up shelf space. The plates screw on through slotted holes so the maple can move, and cork underneath spares the shelf.
• Smoky blue window seat library A reading library built round a window in smoky blue: bookcases to the ceiling either side, a bridge of shelves over the window and one cove crown across it all. Under the window, a deep seat with four big drawers, a rust velvet cushion and linen bolsters, and a brass swing-arm reading light on each side.
