• Teal panelled toy chest A frame-and-panel toy chest in faded teal with an oiled oak lid that doubles as a bench, built so it can never shut on a child: soft-close stays hold the lid at any angle, and rubber bumpers stop it 12mm above the frame, which also lets air in. Rope handles, a raised floor on cleats and posts mortised to every rail keep it square for a lifetime of toys.
• Denim blue captain's bed A single captain's bed in denim blue with six deep drawers on the front, round-shouldered ends and a low back along the wall, so by day it is a sofa for reading and by night a bed. Built safe: eucalyptus-green guard panels stand 180mm above the 150mm mattress all round, the straight ladder runs up past the deck as handholds, and both back posts are fixed to the wall; for children six and over, in a room with a ceiling of at least 2400mm.
