Cherry window-sill desk

A floating cherry desk that carries the window sill out into the room: its top sits level with a 760mm sill so the sill becomes the back of the desk, and two slim drawers hang beneath on concealed steel plates and a rail into the studs, with nothing on the floor. It turns the brightest spot in a small bedroom into a 1400 x 460mm workspace without giving up an inch of the walls either side.

• Blue-grey headboard wall A wall-to-wall built-in around the bed, painted the same deep blue-grey as the room: bedside towers with two drawers and lit open shelves, cupboards bridging over the top under a cove crown, and a channel-tufted rust velvet headboard set into the alcove. Brass swing-arm reading lights reach in from each tower, so the nightstands stay clear.
• Olive window seat A reading window seat built right across a bedroom bay in smoky olive: two deep drawers under an oiled oak seat and a thick ticking-stripe cushion, bookcases rising either side over shaker cupboards, a cupboard bridging over the window under a cove crown, and a brass swing-arm light on each side for reading after dark.
• Oak platform storage bed A low queen platform bed in oiled white oak, with three deep drawers tucked under the foot behind a shadow-line lip and a floating black kick, and a fluted oak headboard screwed to the wall behind it. Calm and Japanese-leaning, with a whole chest of drawers hiding in plain sight.
