Birch room divider with fold-out desk

A double-sided birch plywood room divider 1200mm wide and 400mm deep that splits a studio into living and working halves, with an ink-black desk box set into one column: its front folds down on brass stays to an 800mm-deep lino-topped desk at 740mm, lit inside by a warm strip. Shelves open to both sides, so the wall it replaces still lets the light through.

• Oak guitar wall with a top shelf A white oak wall rail that hangs three guitars by their headstocks on leather-lined yokes, with a lipped shelf above for the tuner, capo, picks and spare strings, so the instruments are out of the way but one reach from being played. It hangs on a French cleat, and the yoke arms are tenoned into the backboard rather than screwed.
• Limestone arched niche wall A living-room wall built out 280mm on plywood ribs and faced in limestone-coloured MDF, with three tall arched niches cut into it: each lined, fitted with two oak shelves on an oak sill and lit by a warm puck light let into the top of the arch, under a cove cornice. Display shelving that takes up no floor, with the depth of the build-out hiding the speaker and lighting cables.
• Petrol blue slatted radiator cover A radiator cover that turns the most awkward metre of wall in a small room into a 230mm-deep oak shelf: petrol blue slats in front, at least 60mm clear above a standard 600mm radiator, an open kick below for cool air to draw in and a brass vent grille let into the back of the top so the heat still rises. It replaces the console table there was never room for, and hides the radiator for good.
