• Heather picture-frame panelled wall A whole living-room wall given period architecture: a 6mm MDF lining over tired plaster, then a deep skirting, a moulded dado rail, ten mitred picture-frame panels in two tiers and a cove cornice, all painted one soft heather. It stands no more than 100mm proud even at the cornice, so it goes behind a sofa or a console, and it costs a fraction of real panelling.
• Plywood room divider A floor-to-ceiling room divider of open birch-plywood boxes stacked in a brick bond, every other column offset by half a box, with four closed cubbies painted dusty blue scattered through it. Open from both sides and fixed to a ceiling joist, so it needs no back.
• Cherry keepsake box with walnut splines A cherry keepsake box sized for letters, photographs and a child's first shoes, its mitred corners locked with walnut splines that show as fine dark stripes. The lid is sawn from the same mitred box, so the grain runs unbroken over the joint line, and maple liners standing proud of the body seat the lid without a catch.
